The airline's new nonstops from Pittsburgh will provide one-stop and connecting services through Philadelphia to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, Florida.

"We are extremely pleased to launch this service and to further enhance competition at two very important centers of air commerce in the Northeast," said Joseph Leonard, AirTran Airways' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "As AirTran Airways continues to increase its presence in the air travel market throughout the eastern United States, we hope to be able to provide additional opportunities for Pennsylvanians to benefit."

"These new AirTran Airways flights give today's frequent travelers a new affordable-fare alternative, one with convenient same-day `out and back' options," said Kevin Healy, AirTran Airways' Vice President, Planning. "Our unique brand of service, with amenities that business travelers want, such as a business-class cabin, assigned seating and a generous frequent flyer program, will help Pittsburghers and Philadelphians save millions of dollars in air fares, in addition to what they already save with our current nonstop services to Chicago, New York, Florida, Atlanta and beyond."

AirTran Airways will utilize new Boeing 717-200 aircraft in the market. The 717-200, of which AirTran Airways was the first customer in October 1999, features ultra-quiet Rolls-Royce engines, a roomy interior and EasyFit storage bins, with the same per person storage space as a widebody 747, and 100 percent fresh air circulated throughout the cabin.

AirTran Airways is offering a special introductory fare of $49 each way to celebrate the new service. Tickets must be purchased by May 29, 2001, and travel must be completed by October 3, 2001. This $49 introductory fare represents a 50 percent reduction from current leisure fare levels. The lowest walkup fare will be $119, nearly 50 percent lower than current walkup fares.

Currently, AirTran Airways operates daily nonstop service from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, where the airline operates 148 daily departures and provides Pennsylvanians with connections to dozens of destinations throughout the eastern and southern United States. AirTran Airways also flies daily nonstops between Pittsburgh and both New York LaGuardia and Chicago Midway, and daily nonstops from Philadelphia to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, Florida.

Systemwide, AirTran Airways operates 326 daily departures to 34 cities. Offering the convenience of easy, same concourse connections in Atlanta, AirTran Airways operates 148 daily departures from Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest airport.

AirTran Airways provides everyday, affordable air travel throughout the eastern United States and, unlike other airlines, never requires a roundtrip purchase or Saturday night stay. AirTran Airways is the launch customer for the Boeing 717, today's newest, most innovative and most environmentally friendly commercial aircraft.
