Blog Notes: Automotive Edition
Working as the blogger relations manager for PR Newswire, I come across my fair share of great blogs that cover a wide variety of subject matters and interests. And as you might expect, some blogs are better than others. With that in mind and in an effort to highlight the better ones, I do my best to review one of these blogs every day. Last week, my focus was on car blogs. Whether you’re a gear head or a Sunday driver, cars and mobility and transportation have a hand in just about everything we do in this country. I don’t own a car or even use one very often, but still recognize the impact they have on our economy, environment and culture. So with that in mind, let’s start our engines, check our mirrors, and take a tour, nay drive, through this brief roundup of some of the best car blogs I’ve seen lately.
Green Car Congress is a car blog that’s also an alternative energy blog. It’s a business blog that’s also an environmental blog. I like to call it a sustainable mobility blog. The truth of the matter is that most cars (and consumers for that matter) will have to go green in the near future. As other publications race to get up to speed, you could consider this blog the pace car. If I were to pitch this blog I’d look for something that sits at the intersection of alternative energy and automotive. Check out the full review here.
The Truth About Cars is about cars, yes. But ‘truth’ is the operative word here. As in they’re going to be very honest about the cars and products they review. At times, brutally. But it’s this sort of approach that has built trust with their readers. And as this trust grows, so does the blog’s reputation. If I were to pitch them, I’d look for car related content. Just be warned. If they don’t like something, they’ll be vocal about it. Check out the full review here.
I get the sense that the folks at Speed:Sport:Life would write or talk about cars even if there was no audience. What I mean to say is they love cars. They’re passionate. They’re having a lot of fun with this blog. And it shows. This is the blog for the true gear head. If I were to pitch this blog, yes it’d be about cars, but maybe more so about race cars. Check out the full review here.
Solar Charged Driving is a blog dedicated to highlighting alternative options for transportation and mobility. Admittedly, solar-charged driving sounds like something from the future. But this blog’s aim is to make it part of the mainstream. And the truth is soon we’ll have to consider all our resource options, especially the renewable ones. If I were to pitch this blog, I’d look for something to do with alternative energy, and, of course, cars. Check out the full review here.
I feel like if you were to put a stenographer into an auto body garage, and then converted that text into blog format, you’d get something close to Jalopnik. This is a funny and at times irreverent blog. But they also really loves cars. And so does their rich commenting community. If I were to pitch this blog, I’d look for something ‘cool’ about cars. And I’d also keep in mind that the commentors will be chiming in, too. Check out the full review here.
That’s all for now. In the meantime, if there’s a blog I should be reviewing, drop me a line or a note in the comments, and I’ll take a look. Until next time…
