Fitness Blogs: Keep the Resolution!

Working as the blogger relations manager for PR Newswire, I come across my fair share of great blogs that cover a wide variety of subject matters and interests.  And as you might expect, some blogs are better than others. With that in mind and in an effort to highlight the better ones, I do my best to review one of these blogs every day.

It’s a new year. And with it come promises to do better. Everyone made their resolutions, right? I know I’ve made mine. Like most years, physical fitness is near the top of my list. And like most people, I’m striving to be at my best in 2012. I want to look good, sure. But I’d really rather feel good. Luckily I’ve found some great blogs to help me achieve my goals this coming year. So with that in mind, let’s stretch out our quadriceps, pump up our bike tires and enjoy this brief run through some of the best fitness blogs I’ve seen lately.

Yoga Dork is not just something bullies call me. It’s also a great and often quite funny blog dedicated to this ancient exercise and mindfulness practice. This blog is not just for the serious yogis among us. Though, they’d probably enjoy it, too.  If I were to pitch this blog, I’d look for stories having to do with yoga. And it probably wouldn’t hurt to have a sense of humor. The people who run the site certainly do. Check out the full review here.

Run to the Finish is the blog chronicling one woman’s journey into the world of hard-core running. And I say ‘hard-core’ purely from a place of envy here. Truthfully, she’d probably smoke me on the open trail. Still, reading her site will certainly help me be a better runner in the long run. If I were to pitch this blog, I’d look for anything surrounding running products. Stories about running events or races might also work. Check out the full review here.

Change Your Life, Ride a Bike is not just great advice. It’s also the name of a great blog. On the site they seamlessly shift gears between nostalgic pictorials of folks riding their bicycles to stories on how donated bikes can aid humanitarian efforts around the world.  If I were to pitch this blog, I’d look for anything to do with bikes. Stories on bike commuting might also do well here. Check out the full review here.

WeightTraining.com is a great resource for anyone who wants to pack on muscle mass in a smart, safe and efficient way. The site can help aspiring meat-heads (such as yours truly) build and craft their own workout regiment. There’s also a great blog in here, too, highlighting the lighter side of this weighty issue. If I were to pitch this blog, I’d look for anything to do with strength training, gyms or fitness. Check out the full review here.

Cap & Goggles is a blog dedicated to all things swimming. The author has competed in one Olympiad and covered three others for television. So basically he knows what he’s talking (and blogging) about. If I were to pitch this blog, I’d look for anything to do with swimming and the community surrounding it. Check out the full review here.

That’s all for now. In the meantime, if there’s a blog I should be reviewing, drop me a line or a note in the comments, and I’ll take a look. Until next time…

Hey, Good post. A Blog to find Blog’s of interest. Great idea. I found your reviews interesting but I had a little trouble with the Yoga Dork link and that is the one I really wanted to read. For years I avoided yoga and a few months ago I gave it a try and I must say I really liked it. So now I read up on help or suggestions about yoga that I can find. I’ll check again later so see if it was just down for maintenance or something. Thanks, Frank
