Jan 10 2012

LAS VEGAS, BASKING RIDGE, N.J. and SAN DIEGO, Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Verizon Wireless and Slacker, Inc. today announced the Slacker Radio application for the Android tablet is being shown at the Verizon booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth #30259).

The new Slacker Radio application has been specifically optimized for the Android tablet with a content-rich interface to get the most from a fast 4G LTE connection.  A highly visual application, Slacker Radio for the Android tablet features a unique station tile display with horizontal and vertical scrolling along with the ability to preview stations before playing and an optimized ability to browse for content, making music discovery even easier.  Navigation of the application has been simplified to easily browse content and switch views.  Slacker Radio offers song lyrics, artist profiles, album reviews and more all in one place with additional content discovery just a tap away.

Jonathan Sasse, senior vice president of marketing at Slacker, said, "Our new application for the Android tablet combines the hands-off listening experience that Slacker is known for with hands-on, in-depth music discovery perfected for a high speed network.  Having the opportunity to show this application for the first time at the Verizon booth at CES is incredible, and we're honored to participate."

Slacker Radio is dedicated to offering a fully customizable and personal online radio experience in the United States and Canada that includes the most varied and compelling range of content offered by any Internet radio service.  The Slacker Radio experience includes over 150 expert-programmed music stations, personalized ABC News and ESPN sports content, comedy, custom artist-hosted showcase stations and leading music festival stations featuring artist commentary and exclusive interviews.  With a music catalog that is over ten times larger than Pandora, the leading radio competitor, Slacker Radio gives listeners the ultimate music and content discovery resource.

Verizon established its Innovation Program to encourage collaboration and help advance the 4G LTE ecosystem.  The company's LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass., and its Application Innovation Center in San Francisco were created to inspire, enable and develop non-traditional devices, services and applications that take advantage of Verizon Wireless' industry-leading wireless networks.  Through the Innovation Program, Verizon seeks to expand the possibilities of 4G LTE by working with diverse companies, from start-ups to established players, in industries representing a broad range of verticals.

The Verizon Developer Community (VDC) is for developers who wish to work with Verizon to distribute their apps through the company's mobile storefront, Verizon Apps.
