PR Newswire: news distribution, targeting and monitoring
Jul 13 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn., July 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Gibson Guitar Corporation announced today its Gibson USA division has released a new signature Flying V created with Grace Potter.  In the image of the classic second wave of '60s Flying Vs, the Grace Potter Flying V is crafted in solid Grade-A mahogany, a rich, resonant tonewood that has been responsible for many of the finest Gibson electric guitars.

The design has a beautifully-crafted art deco influence highlighted by a custom, hand-painted Lexan pickguard and custom silkscreened detail.  Its unique look, designed by Grace, included a hand-sprayed Nocturnal Brown gloss nitrocellulose top finish and satin natural back, sides on the back and neck for playing comfort and to highlight the beautiful mahogany tonewood.  For pickups, Grace selected Gibson USA's Burstbucker Pros, with their vintage voice to deliver her signature tone.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Gibson on this glorious beast of a Flying V.  I positively reveled in the process of designing and collaborating with the team of guitar wizards at the factory in Nashville. They are true craftspeople. In designing the V, I wanted the guitar to have all the physical and technical elements I look for in a guitar, while also capturing a timeless quality. (I actually pulled the art deco border detail off an old cocktail napkin!) This is a guitar I will be proud to play for the rest of my life. I hope other Gibson lovers will feel the same way," said Potter.

Grace's bluesy, soulful, classic-rock vibe and her ability to powerfully engage an audience is what first attracted Gibson to partnering on a brand new signature model.  Grace has long been a dedicated Flying V player, so creating the new Grace Potter Signature Flying V was a great fit for both Grace and Gibson.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals' recently released album, The Lion The Beast The Beat debuted at #17 on Billboard's Top 200.  The band is currently on the Brothers of The Sun Tour with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw.
