LAKE PLACID, N.Y., July 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- This summer, bike your way across the Adirondack Park and explore the region's scenic roads and rugged mountain trails.  From the quiet roadways of Lake Champlain's picturesque coast, to the challenging loops and remote wilderness trails of New York's highest peaks, the Adirondacks offer biking routes for riders of all ability levels.

Come experience the thrill of zooming down forested mountain terrain, try the challenging Lake Placid Ironman loop, or simply enjoy a leisurely ride along an array of family-friendly routes. Whether you're riding on knobby or road tires, opportunities abound for road and mountain biking throughout the park — all among breathtaking lake and mountain views.

Popular Adirondack biking routes include:

  • The Lake Placid Ironman Loop totals 56 miles and features challenging road terrain. Starting in Lake Placid and looping through Keene, Jay, and Wilmington, this makes for a difficult loop, but features beautiful scenery including the pristine Cascade Lakes. If you plan your route in advance, you can even pass by the Olympic ski jumps as you make your way back into Lake Placid.
  • Whiteface Region Biking boasts a series of incredible mountain trails on and around its central hub of Whiteface Mountain, claiming the biggest vertical drop in the East. Nicknamed the "Biking Capital of the Adirondacks," the region features Whiteface Downhill Biking, offering beginner and intermediate terrain from their shuttle bus as well as expert terrain, accessed off of the Cloudsplitter Gondola at the summit of Little Whiteface.
  • The Adirondack Coast Bikeways consist of a network of 14 loops included in the 750-mile Lake Champlain Bikeways running from Lake Champlain to Chambly, Quebec. Try out the Acres of Apples loop that tours five area orchards or if you're looking to experience more local history, try the Fort to Fort tour from Crown Point to Fort Ticonderoga.
  • The Schroon Lake Johnson Pond – Paradox Loop features mountain biking in the Schroon Lake Region on this 22-mile loop of moderate technical difficulty. Consisting mostly of hard-packed dirt roads with rolling terrain and gradual climbs alongside marshes, ponds, and streams, this makes for a great half-day ride if you get an early start at the canoe launch in North Hudson.
