CHICAGO, July 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribune Media Services (TMS), the leading provider of entertainment metadata, and SKY Brasil, the largest satellite TV operator in Brazil, have announced a new agreement under which TMS' best-in-class On Entertainment metadata will be used in the entertainment guides offered by SKY Brasil to its fast-growing subscriber base.

SKY Brasil, the premier pay TV brand in Brazil, reaches more than 4 million subscribers, approximately 30% of all pay TV subscribers in the country. By providing superior guides powered by TMS entertainment information, images, TV Showcards and discovery capabilities, SKY Brasil will increase consumption of its various program offerings among existing subscribers and attract new subscribers.

While TMS currently provides extensive entertainment information to customers around the globe, this marks the first time its next-generation On Entertainment metadata is being used in the flourishing Brazilian market.  Earlier in July, TMS and DIRECTV Latin America announced an agreement under which On metadata will power the entertainment guides offered by DIRECTV Latin America to its PanAmericana subscribers in Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, the Caribbean, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Ecuador.

"We are excited about the opportunity to provide our industry-leading On Entertainment metadata to SKY Brasil," said John Kelleher, President and Chief Operating Officer of TMS. "We view this agreement as evidence that large service providers outside of the U.S. value TMS' industry-leading On Entertainment metadata and we look forward to closing on more international agreements in the near future."

"As we considered our options for metadata to power our newest navigational guides, TMS - already a DIRECTV supplier - was our first choice," said Vito Chiarella, Customer Service Vice President at SKY Brasil. "Based on the outstanding reputation of TMS metadata, we have a high degree of confidence that our subscribers will benefit from the depth, accuracy and quality of the On Entertainment data we'll present."

TMS metadata powers the leading television and movie guide products which reach millions of consumers in 40 countries through clients including Microsoft, Google, TiVo, Comcast, IMDb, Virgin Media UK and Cablevision Mexico.
