LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A new Facebook survey from Total Car Score (www.totalcarscore.com), the most comprehensive automotive ranking and comparison website, finds that the Aston Martin DB5 from the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger is the favorite Bond car of all time. In a Facebook poll of more than 900 participants from across the United States, people selected the Aston Martin DB5 from a list of 10 classic and modern Bond cars that span the franchise's history, from 1962's Dr. No to 2008's Quantum of Solace.

Goldfinger's Aston Martin DB5 secured an overwhelming 55% majority of fan votes, while the film series' other Aston Martin models, Quantum of Solace's DBS and Die Another Day's Vanquish, secured the second and third places, respectively, with 20% and 10% of the fans' votes. "Based on the opinions of those we surveyed on Facebook, it seems the Aston Martin DB5 has everything that makes a Bond car a Bond car," said Karl Brauer, editor-in-chief of Total Car Score. "Early vehicles, like Dr. No's Sunbeam Alpine, didn't diminish 007's image, yet the Aston Martin DB5 that debuted in Goldfinger set a new standard that has yet to be eclipsed. The DB5's sleek profile can stand on its own, but throw in oil jets, machine guns and an ejector seat and you're left with a Bond icon so powerful they've brought it back for the modern movies."

Brauer refers to a period in the film series in which Bond's mostly British garage arsenal was offset for a few years by BMW models like the Z8 and 750iL. "But now," said Brauer, "the modern Bond has reverted to Aston Martin as his vehicle of choice. No doubt this has to do with the revival of Aston Martin and some truly outstanding vehicles in its lineup over the last few years. It's a brand that feels like the proper Bond tool for thwarting baddies."

Total Car Score's survey builds on the anticipation for the November 2012 release of the newest James Bond installment, Skyfall, which will debut Bond's latest set of wheels: the new Aston Martin Vanquish.

"The new Aston Martin Vanquish will surely be a stunning vehicle on and off screen," says Brauer, "but I have to agree with Total Car Score's readers – the classic DB5 is the coolest Bond car ever, and I think it will remain that way. Despite the undoubtedly impressive showing the new Vanquish will have in Skyfall, I think the DB5 will continue to reign supreme among 007 enthusiasts for quite some time."
