BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Michael Smith from Life Extension, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla-based organization dedicated to the extension of the healthy human lifespan, appears on The SUZANNE Show this week to discuss food sensitivities.  His appearance, which is one in a series devoted to healthy eating and longevity, airs Wednesday, November 7, at 7 a.m. (ET/PT) on Lifetime Television.

Unlike food allergies that can be quite swift and dangerous, food "sensitivities" have a slow, continuous effect on the body and symptoms are often more difficult to identify.  It's all due to something known as the IgG antibody, which may mistakenly tell our body that certain types of foods are "foreign invaders" and initiate an immune response.

"Food sensitivities are much less severe reactions, but are still damaging to your health and well-being," Dr. Smith says.  "Millions of people that are suffering from 'mystery symptoms' like headaches, stomach discomfort, insomnia, mild weight gain and fatigue may actually be sensitive to certain foods."

Until recently, determining which foods might be causing problems meant keeping a detailed food diary for months at a time, recording every ingredient consumed and every symptom experienced.  Since symptoms are often delayed and patient's diets incredibly varied, the process is tedious at best.

Now, Life Extension offers a Food Safe Sensitivity Test, which tests for IgG anti-body response to almost 100 foods and ingredients, quickly identifying which foods are problematic.  It's a simple finger prick test that can be performed right at home, and when the results come back, foods are identified as green, yellow, or red based on the immune response they initiated.  For more information: http://www.lef.org/suzanneTV.
