COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- How can schools make sure that every child is on track for graduation and meeting the new Common Core State Standards? Mazin Education was launched in 2012 to help educators find the answer.

Founder Dr. Mariam Azin created the new company with specific goals in mind, building on her experience as founder and CEO of Planning, Research & Evaluation (PRES) Associates, Inc. "In my 20 years of working in the field with schools and districts, I realized that we needed to have better ways of evaluating student performance, and better ways to catch students before they fail," she says. "Mazin Education builds on the experience I gained in research and evaluation to develop software tools that make it easier to measure student achievement and coordinate intervention services."

Mazin Education, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, opened its doors this fall with two initial products. Mazin Assess is an innovative online assessment engine geared towards measuring the kind of knowledge required by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which have been adopted by 45 states. New high-stakes assessments for the CCSS are under development by two testing consortia, PARCC and SBAC and will be given to students starting in 2014.  Mazin Assess was developed to accommodate the different test item types needed to accurately measure the CCSS.

Mazin Education's second product, Mazin EnCompass, takes a more holistic approach to student outcomes. Going beyond academic assessment, Mazin EnCompass provides an early-warning system to help schools identify and reach students at risk of behavioral problems, bullying, mental health issues, academic failure or dropping out. Says Dr. Azin, "When you look at students who drop out of school, you'll see warning signs going back years. We developed EnCompass to give schools a systematic way to identify at-risk students and connect them to appropriate mental health and family services, academic interventions and behavioral modification programs to increase their chances of success."

Mazin Education is a uniquely 21st-century company, operating on an "intellectual capital on demand" model. Chief Operating Officer John McHale says, "In today's business environment, it's an advantage to be small, agile and responsive to market needs and pressures. By leveraging a distributed workforce and a network of strategic partners, we can tap into exactly the right talent we need to serve our clients well while keeping overhead low."

Mazin Education is currently focused on expanding strategic partnership and planning the next phase of software development. Additional teacher accountability and intervention tools building on their current programs are likely to be developed next.
