PR Newswire: news distribution, targeting and monitoring
Nov 14 2012

NEW YORK, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- NBCUniversal News Group announced today that iVillage, one of the largest online communities for women, will be joining its portfolio of digital news properties, effective immediately. The move comes on the heels of NBCUniversal's acquisition of MSNBC Digital Network, which gave the company full ownership of its online news properties, including like-minded brands such as TODAY.com that cater to a similar audience of women as iVillage. As part of the NBC News Digital portfolio, iVillage joins other world-class brands including NBCNews.com, msnbc.com, theGrio.com, NBCLatino.com, NBCPolitics.com, EducationNation.com, EveryBlock.com, BreakingNews.com, Newsvine.com, and the existing apps and digital extensions of these respective properties. iVillage will be overseen by Vivian Schiller, SVP & Chief Digital Officer at NBC News, who leads NBC News Digital.

As a leading provider of lifestyle content, information and community for women, iVillage will be integrated into NBC News Digital's operations, sharing content with affinity sites across the portfolio including TODAY.com, creating expanded, high-value sales opportunities for clients, collaborating with the network's on-air programs, and tapping into the resources and technology of NBC News. With the iVillage network, NBC News Digital is estimated to reach an average of over 62 million unique users per month.

"The addition of iVillage enables NBC News Digital to enhance the experience of our online audiences, continue to innovate and grow our digital business, and create truly unique propositions in the marketplace," said Schiller. "iVillage is a powerful brand with a passionate and loyal online community, and it will be a strong addition to our robust portfolio from both a content and sales perspective."

NBC News and iVillage have shared an on-going partnership for many years, and the two divisions recently collaborated on surveys for iVillage's "iVote 2012" channel, and special coverage during NBC News' "Education Nation" Week. In addition, iVillage Correspondent Kelly Wallace is a frequent contributor to NBC News' "TODAY" show and MSNBC.

iVillage has consistently delivered innovative content, recently exemplified by the launch of its highly successful "Guest Editor" series, which First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off. The site's signature franchises, such as Community Challenges, also serve as a draw for the millions of women in the iVillage audience. Last month, iVillage was recognized by the industry with an Online Media, Marketing and Advertising (OMMA) Award for outstanding information resource tied to its "50 Best to Worst States for Women."

Since the acquisition of MSNBC Digital Network from Microsoft in July of 2012, NBC News Digital has been actively building out new partnerships with other NBCUniversal divisions, including CNBC digital, the NBC Owned Television Stations and Comcast's Xfinity.
