WASHINGTON, 2 de febrero de 2013 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- La siguiente declaración fue publicada hoy por Stephen J. Ubl, presidente y director ejecutivo de Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), en respuesta a un propuesto aumento de impuestos considerable para los fabricantes de tecnología médica en Puerto Rico:

"AdvaMed se opone enérgicamente a los planes anunciados hoy para aumentar considerablemente un impuesto para los fabricantes de dispositivos médicos que operan en Puerto Rico. El impuesto cuando fue asignado por primera vez en 2010, fue programado para disminuir del cuatro por ciento en 2011 al uno por ciento en 2016. El Departamento del Tesoro de Puerto Rico, anunció hoy que buscará, en su lugar, elevar el impuesto nuevamente al cuatro por ciento y mantenerlo a ese nivel hasta 2017. El aumento de impuestos para un socio de fabricación importante no mejorará la economía de Puerto Rico. Los fabricantes de dispositivos están luchando para abordar un clima de negocios internacionales desafiante, recortes considerables a los programas de Medicare y, por su puesto, el impuesto para los dispositivos médicos en Estados Unidos que entró en vigor en enero. Este peso adicional obligará a las empresas a tomar decisiones difíciles acerca de los recortes en investigación y desarrollo, empleo y posibles retrasos significativos en aumentos de capital.
