SEATTLE, March 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As part of a five-year focus on water and sanitation projects in Malawi, World Vision announces a new partnership with charity:water, specifically targeting needs in communities where less than 50 percent of the population has access to clean water.
World Vision is proud to partner with charity:water, a leader and innovator in mobilizing supporters to bring water to the millions in need around the globe. With World Vision's 35-year history of holistic community development work in Malawi, this partnership allows a collaborative effort that significantly expands water interventions in many communities.
Clean water, sanitation and good hygiene are basic necessities most Americans take for granted, but for many children around the world, they can be the difference between life and death. In the world today, nearly one billion people lack access to drinking water from an improved drinking water source such as a simple hand pump well or a piped water system and 2.5 billion people do not have access to improved sanitation.

This month, World Vision and charity:water will launch water interventions in Malawi, with 55 new wells and 40 rehabilitated wells planned for 2013.
