RESERVACIÓN INDÍGENA PINE RIDGE, Dakota del Sur, 3 de marzo del 2013 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- Alcohol Justice informa que la noche del 28 de febrero del 2013 Bryan V. Brewer Sr., presidente de la Tribu Oglala Sioux, se unió a otros 100 miembros de la tribu y aliados para un baile pacífico en la frontera entre Dakota del Sur y Nebraska, cerca del tristemente conocido poblado fronterizo llamado White Clay, NE. White Clay, un caserío no incorporado, consiste de cuatro licorerías que se aprovechan de los vecinos de la reservación adyacente, donde está prohibido el alcohol.

Entidades policiales de Nebraska, como la Policía del Condado Sheridan y la Policía Estatal de Nebraska, intentaron mantener a los manifestantes pacíficos dentro de lo que ellos creen que son los límites jurídicos de la reservación. El Presidente Brewer se vio obligado a informar al jefe de la Policía del Condado Sheridan, Terry Robbins, sobre la postura de la Tribu sobre el tema de los llamados límites "jurídicos", citando los Tratados de Ft. Laramie de 1851/1868.

El Presidente Brewer declaró: "El Gobierno Federal implementó una zona de contención de 10 millas alrededor de los límites exteriores de la reservación, donde no se podía vender licores. El Estado de Nebraska está infringiendo sus propias leyes. La ley federal, y muy importante, la ley de Tratado, suplanta a sus leyes condales y estatales".

El Presidente Brewer atravesó pacíficamente un cordón de la policía de Nebraska y entró en la primera licorería en la parte norte de de White Clay. Salió del lugar poco tiempo después y el dueño de la licorería apagó las luces y cerró el local por el resto de la noche.

El Presidente Brewer informó a Robbins que planea pedir personalmente a las cuatro licorerías que cierren sus establecimientos. "Continuaré marchando con mis familiares por White Clay y Lincoln, Nebraska, hasta entonces. El alcohol afecta a muchas de nuestras familias en la reservación. ¡Estas licorerías se han aprovechado demasiado tiempo de nuestra miseria!"

Se han planeado bailes pacíficos para el futuro.
