A Brief Blog Profile: Free Bike Valet
Music can be tough thing to review because it's so personal. Everyone has their own taste. But it's an important subject, and I recently came across a blog that covers it well.
Free Bike Valet is a beach city music blog that captures the "coastal lifestyle, sand romanticism, brisk fog, and gold rush nostalgia that characterizes the West Coast." It's written by Dan Frazier, an entertainment music journalist in Santa Monica, Calif. who's written for Entertainment Weekly, SPIN, Nylon, Filter, and Alternative Press, among others.
According to the blog, the term “free bike valet” is not what many assume a pun, but it actually exists.
"It’s available at nearly every beach-side event in SoCal from pier concerts to farmer’s markets," the blog says. "It evokes a laid-back mind-set of stress free fun on a sunny day and helps build a stronger communal mentality. And it’s spreading ..."
I appreciate Free Bike Valet because Frazier writes about music in a very accessible way. His recent critique of Augury by pop folk band Big Tree was pretty right on. I plan to keep this blog on my radar.
