A Brief Blog Profile: Grantland
Bill Simmons was known as "The Sports Guy," when he wrote for ESPN's homepage. Simmons has spread his wings beyond the purview of competitive games and launched a more pop culture-centric blog named Grantland.
The blog is armed with a lineup of great writers (more on them later) and focuses on a wide range of topics, from sports to broader cultural moments.
Simmons made a name for himself writing for ESPN.com He originally was brought on to guest write three columns, but he quickly became the site's most popular author. His first article for ESPN entitled, "Is Roger Clemens the Antichrist?" was among the site's most shared article of that year. While at ESPN, his articles were rooted in sports, but often veered into broader themes.
Today, Simmons is the editor-in-chief of Grantland. Joining him on the masthead are such heavyweights as Chuck Klosterman, David Jacoby, Jonathan Abrams and Jay Caspian Kang. With a team like that, it'll be hard for Grantland to lose.
