A Brief Blog Profile: Adland
by Thomas Hynes
Adland was founded way back in 1996. By internet standards (where memes rise and fall on the hour) this makes them downright ancient. But don't let the longevity fool you. There is nothing antiquated about this site. In their own words, the idea behind Adland was to 'bitch, rant and gossip about advertising while collecting ads of all media for reference, and gather all likeminded adgrunts to join in while showing off their ad-work.'
Today on the site you can read about the ten things that scare creatives. Or maybe you're more interested in how branding is now being seen in the form of ink tattoos. Still, maybe you just want to read about the search engine that MC Hammer is launching. (Wait. What?) The point is, there's a lot of great stuff to read on here. Plus, they link to great stuff on other blogs, like this piece about how Christmas is really the world's first global marketing campaign. It's not just about them and what they're saying. It's about good content.
So if you're looking to get a grip on what's happening on Madison Avenue and, well, pretty much every other advertising house in the world, Adlands is among the best blogs you can find to help you get your bearings.
