A Brief Blog Profile: Angry Asian Man
by Thomas Hynes
The Angry Asian Man isn't really all that angry. Although, racism certainly does perturb him. (Hey, same here!) But, it's not as if he's "sitting in front of the computer, hating whitey." This site isn't about plotting revolutions, or even boycotts for that matter. Rather, this site is dedicated to illustrating the way Asians are portrayed in the media and popular culture. At times, the site is really funny. But not surprisingly, the site can also be somber and, yeah, angry.
On Angry Asian Man, you can read about how Marion Barry's feelings on Filipino women changed. Here's the quick recap. Mr. Barry thought there were too many Filipino nurses in DC, that is until one saved his life. And here you can read about how a Congressional campaign in Texas associated their opponent with China in order to smear them. And here, he points out the unfortunate racist taunts hurled recently at an Emory University sporting event. As you can see, there's a fair amount to be angry about.
But it's not all anger. This blog routinely points out great blogs to read as well as great contributions Asians are making in the fields of music, art, film and sport. As is clear to see, there's a lot to celebrate, too.
