A Brief Blog Profile: Animal Law Coalition
by Thomas Hynes
Animal Law Coalition is a relatively new blog. But, their mission is one that people have been behind for a long time. In their own words, their goal is to "stop animal cruelty and suffering through legislation, administrative agency action, and litigation." They also offer legal analysis of the more complicated issues and encourage their readers to get involved and active in their own communities in order to stop the scourge of cruelty and poor treatment.
On Animal Law Coalition, you can read about bills currently under consideration in state houses across the country. For instance, there's the Paulin Bill in New York. This bill would increase pet dealer standards and greatly improve the quality and condition of animals in the state. In Ohio, there is a bill being considered around 'high volume breeders.' And in Miami, voters are deciding on whether or not to ban pit bulls outright. At the risk of editorializing, here's hoping they don't.
To be honest, there are also some pretty gruesome images on this blog. Interested readers can find those on their own as they won't be linked to from here. In a way, I suppose it's important to know such cruelty exists. Thankfully, there are blogs like this one showing concerned readers how to make things better.
