A Brief Blog Profile: Deadspin
by Thomas Hynes
Deadspin is more than a great sports blog.Deadspin is where you go to find out what really happened. It's where you go when ESPN is being too polite to cover the 'real' story, the whole story. It's where you go to get the dirt and truth on the sporting world's biggest stars. Or anyway, it's where I go for all of that. It's not a knock on ESPN, but Deadspin operates with the interests of their readers in mind.
That's not to say it's all scandals on Deadspin. That's not the case at all, really. This blog does however dig deeper into sports-related stories than other sites. And maybe that's because "sports-related" is a loose term to them. For instance, recently R.A. Dickey signed a contract with the Mets. (Poor guy.) He then bought his family a minivan, which he has named, The Millennium Falcon. This might not seem interesting to the casual sports fan. But to those out there who like both baseball AND Star Wars, this is good reading.
Deadspin is also the home to mascot slam-dunk mishap videos, a view into Senator George Allen's bracket, or even these artistic interpretations of Jose Canseco's tweets. After all, sports are fun. The blogs that cover them ought to be, too.
