A Brief Blog Profile: Four Pins

by Thomas Hynes

The fashion blog Four Pins gets its name from a Renaissance-era French expression. "Tiré à Quatre Épingles" means to be held together by, you guessed it, four pins. Taken figuratively, it means to be dressed well. Not surprisingly, the looks featured on here are pretty impeccable, or "to the nines" to borrow a phrase from them. The blog also realizes who their readers are, delivering content with both a sense of context and humor.

For example, this piece talks about how spending responsibly on new gear will not only keep you from going broke, it will also earn your mom's respect. (And who doesn't want that?) Speaking of family, this post points out how your grandmother's living room is stylistically relevant. This piece about vests poses the thought that your arms will be jealous of your torso. And this post shows examples of how keeping it cozy can go wrong. They even had a report on the "styles" of the Republican convention!

For these reasons and a lot more, Four Pins is definitely one of my favorite fashion blogs. I should also mention that while they have a great sense of humor and context, they don't necessarily have any pretension. That's not in style, anyway.

Don't let the name PR Newswire for Journalists dissuade you. This is a great service for bloggers. Any content creator -- whether you're a journalist, freelancer or blogger -- can set up a customized profile to receive releases based on preferences. You also have access to hi-res photos, media-only content such as media advisories and embargoed releases, and experts via ProfNet.

ProfNet

ProfNet helps customers gain exposure for their organization by promoting spokespeople and experts on a network that connects tens of thousands of news organizations with expert sources. ProfNet members get the inside scoop on reporter queries and media leads, and build relationships with the journalists who cover their industry. ProfNet customers can respond directly to reporters looking for expert sources, pitch experts and story ideas directly to the media, and create searchable expert profiles so media can contact them directly

ProfNet Connect

ProfNet Connect is a free, interactive online community where PR professionals, experts, and media professionals can network and engage with one another. Via profiles, forums and blogs, subject-matter experts can position themselves as the go-to source for reporters. In turn, reporters can search the site by keyword to find the experts they need. The site also features enhanced profile capabilities, allowing users to easily add multimedia components -- photos, videos, white papers and more -- to their profiles. And because profiles are indexed by all major search engines, users can increase their visibility and media interaction even further.

News Widget

Our widget allows you to display PR Newswire content on your site with very little back-end programming required.   You not only get the headline, but also the body of text of the news release, keeping the user on your site at all times.  In order to do so, the difference between our Widget and other widgets is at the end of the sign-up process, you will be provided with 2 pieces of source code -- one for the page where the Widget itself will be displayed and one for the pages that will display the body of text of each news release.   In addition, the sign-up process allows you to have 100% control over every aspect of the Widget's appearance, so that the Widget can blend in fully with the look and feel of your website.... Here it is in action on my bike blog.   Still not convinced? Here's what one blogger had to say about the widget.
