A Brief Blog Profile: Inspiring Sports Women
by Thomas Hynes
When I was growing up, my older sister played ice hockey for the boys team. My other older sister could (and still can) run laps around me. Therefore, I'm never surprised to read and hear about the athletic achievements of women. Still, not everyone grew up with older sisters like mine (not to mention a grandmother who once played basketball at Madison Square Garden.) So, I'm glad there are blogs like Inspiring Sports Women to further champion this awareness.
The site is run by an Irish journalist named Niamh Griffin. And just to be clear, it's not that this blog is opposed to male athletes. It's just, well, look around. Male athletes have been getting enough coverage as it is. As they say on the blog, "it seems women athletes have been bitten by an Invisibility Bug." Inspiring Sports Women is meant to correct that problem.
And they go about adjusting this imbalance by highlighting some pretty hardcore female athletets. Take for example this rugby team. Maybe that doesn't seem too tough to you. If that's the case, I submit this post on Muy Thai. And it's not just pictures. There's also this post on funding for women's sports and this post on the greening of the Olympics. This blog is about more than women. Sometimes, it's even about more than sports.
