A Brief Blog Profile: Money Crashers
by Thomas Hynes
Money Crashers is a personal finance blog out of Chicago. The site is administered by Andrew Schrage and Gyutae Park, but also features a host of other authors. In their own words, their goal is to "develop a community of people who try to make financially sound decisions." And they go about achieving this goal by educating their readers on the ways everything from small actions to big purchases affect your financial well being, or as they might put it, your financial fitness.
On this blog, you're likely to read about reviews of credit cards and advice on how to get out of an annoying mobile phone contract. On a third post, you'll read about smartphone apps that help you save money. This kind of stuff is helpful. It's also pretty standard fare for a personal finance blog. But what I really like about Money Crashers is where they go next.
Take for example this post on how to avoid freezer burn. You might be saying to yourself "what does this have to do with personal finance?" Well, think about it. Throwing away what could have been perfectly good food is not necessarily good for your food budget. The same could be said for this post on boosting your immune system naturally. Living well and living frugally can often intersect. In fact, you might save more than money. I'm looking at you, frozen foods.
