A Brief Blog Profile: NewsFlick
by Thomas Hynes
NewsFlick promises "a clear perspective on world events." Administered by Sayid Ali, the tumblr page offers a look at all the different stories that make up the day's news. World events, ecological updates and just about everything else can find its way on to this site... just as long as it's relevant... just as long as it's in the news. Lately, the site has a lot of stories around the Middle East. I wouldn't call it an infatuation, though. I'd just suggest that region is somewhat newsworthy these days.
Today on the site, we can read about reports that Iran will shut down the Hormuz Strait. You can also see how the cold wave has affected the city of Dehli. Here there's information about the Lovejoy Comet and where it will be visible. But maybe, you're more interested in turtle hatchlings. Or maybe you'd rather see some real-life angry birds. Maybe still you prefer this story of a macaque monkey in Indonesia who took a camera from a photographer to take pictures of itself.... cause let's be honest, that's an awesome picture of a smiling monkey.
Truthfully, there's a lot of serious news out there. And a lot of you're going to find it on NewsFlick. Now. Are animal pictures newsworthy? I'd say, sometimes, yes. One thing I've definitely learned is that the internet loves pictures of animals! It's almost like they're the sugar to go with the medicine of real news. On this site, you'll find both. And you'll definitely enjoy it all.
