A Brief Blog Profile: PerkStreet
by Thomas Hynes
PerkStreet is not so much a bank or a credit union.Really, it's a financial institution. Launched in Boston, PerkStreet's mission is to save consumers as much money as possible. And they've also got a really great blog offering tips on how to save money and make wiser decisions moving forward. My experience with banks is that they take $3 from me every time I use a different ATM. To say this is refreshing is an understatement.
On the blog you'll read these creative tips on how to stretch holiday budgets. There's even this post on how to reduce home entertainment costs. There's also this post on personal financial resolutions, which they bill as life-changing. Whether or not lives are changed remains to be seen. What's clear, however, is that PerkStreet legitimately wants to help their customers. It doesn't matter if it's your cable bill, or cash-back opportunities. If it will help people save money, you'll probably read about it here.
I feel like if my bank were to give me advice it would sound like this: "Use any ATM. What's $3 to you? Go for it." What I'm trying to say is that helping me doesn't seem to be the concern of my large bank. They may have advertisements everywhere. But being looked out for is simply not one of the benefits. For my money, I'd rather take PerkStreet. And if nothing else, I''ll at least give the blog a read.
