A Brief Blog Profile: Points of Light
by Thomas Hynes
"One day, every person will discover their power to make a difference, creating healthy communities in vibrant, participatory societies." That is the vision behind the blog Points of Light. They are here to help "inspire, equip and mobilize" their readers to become the positive change they wish to see in the world. This blog believes that while governments, businesses and institutions are a part of the process, people will always be at the center of change.
On the blog you can read about how October is fair trade month. Or, actually, you can watch a video about it. You can also read about highlights from the Social Good Summit. You can also learn about how wearing purple can be seen as a sign of support for Alzheimer's awareness. There's also this very interesting discussion on whether or not community service should be a requirement for graduation. Hard to see them harm in such a requirement. After all, the classroom is not the only place to learn a thing or two.
Points of Light has a number of such interesting arguments to make. On their own they may seem like isolated novel things. They may even seem insignificant. They may seem like nice things people ought to do. But, coalesced together they provide a much brighter view of what society can achieve.
