A Brief Blog Profile: PunditMom
by Thomas Hynes
The tag line for PunditMom reminds readers that "having an opinion never goes out of style." And that's true. To be honest, I didn't know they made women without opinions. Or put another way, none of the women I grew up around kept theirs to themselves. That might explain why i was drawn to this site. Joanne Bamberger is the author of this blog. She's the pundit. She's the mom. She lives just outside Washington, DC, and writes on just about everything that spins around the Beltway.
On the blog, you'll read her take on the new HBO show, "VEEP", starring Julia Louis Dreyfus. You can also read about the prospects of Condoleeza Rice joining Mitt Romney's presumptive ticket for the 2012 presidential campaign. It's an interesting prospect. She's right when she says "nobody would ever dare compare her to Sarah Palin." I also really appreciated this post on how Rush Limbaugh and the GOP can't take back calling a young college student a "slut." They can't. And she's right to take them to task for it.
It's best to keep in mind that PunditMom is still a mom. For instance, she talks about the recent (and horrific) Trayvon Martin case. But she frames it in a "how the hell am I to explain this to my kids" way. And that's what's so striking about this site. There's a balance. There's passion balanced with insight. There are beliefs balanced with facts.
