A Brief Blog Profile: Realized Worth
by Thomas Hynes
Realized Worth is a corporate social responsibility blog written by Chris Jarvis and Angela Parker. The site encourages the practice of employee volunteering. I wouldn't want you to get the idea that all they do is blog about it. These two are actively working with major companies to help them enact programs that "equips employees to lead, influence, and engage in a meaningful way." It's a simple premise, but a powerful one. People feel better about where they work when they're given the opportunity to make an impact outside of the cubicle.
On the blog, you can read about the ways to straighten a brand while at the same time doing good. And again, it's not hypothetical. Angela and Chris have done the work. They're examples are from the real world. When they make the business case for employee volunteering, it's not just a nice thing they think companies should do. It's backed up. It's a business case. It's not a wish list. All that lends weight to their criticisms. For instance, when they say Ikea could be doing more with their initiatives, I take their word for it.
Realized Worth is about a new way of doing business. It's about a new way of positioning brands and companies. And, most importantly, it's about a new way of assessing the value of employees and community.
