Until that day, however, they are here to provide information on and reviews of retail's greener choices. The site moves from fashion and design to gadgets and alternative energy. There's also an "eco news" section on the blog to help readers stay informed on the larger environmental issues.
But really, the main goal of The Alternative Consumer is to provide shoppers with the more responsible retail options. Take, for example, these bamboo sunglasses. Or how about these necklaces made from upcycled camera parts. That's a very cool-looking necklace. But, it's also a cool use for those old parts. The same is true for this old kitchen chair turned dog feeder. But there's a lot more to this site than jewelry and pet feeders. There's some high-tech stuff on here, too. For instance, there's this "rugged" smartphone case. This thing is not only waterproof, it's also solar powered. You can also read up on the future of the electric car battery. No matter the industry, there's a green alternative.
Clearly, this site does not advocate for material detachment. On the contrary, "consumer" is right there in the title. People should still buy things. They should just be aware of the true costs as well as all the options.
