A Brief Blog Profile: The Daily Swarm

by Thomas Hynes

The Daily Swarm is the music blog "for entertainment insiders and true music fans." The site boasts 125,000 regular visitors from around the globe and offers both music and news about music. There are also a ton of reviews, updates on festivals and news on the industry. There's also a section of videos. Most of these are music videos, but there's also kids reenacting Kayne West's tweets, Christmas lights set to Slayer and this conversation with Jay-Z and Cornel West. (No relation, I don't think, to Kanye.)

It seems the only criteria for The Daily Swarm is a stories relation to music. Everyone in the world (or at least in New York) is talking about basketball phenom Jeremy Lin. Most people are talking about his skills as a point guard. But The Daily Swarm is taking him to task for his taste in music. They're also reporting on Dave Mustane's presidential endorsement(s). And for those interested in lighter fare, there's this video of a French Bulldog listening to Adele's "Someone Like You".

I particularly like the name of this blog, because that's kind of how it feels reading it. There are so many stories surrounding music out there. But still, there's a continuity to it. It's like a million from a million different points all playing to the same song. Take a look at the blog and let it all overwhelm you.

Customized Newsfeeds

Don't let the name PR Newswire for Journalists dissuade you. This is a great service for bloggers. Any content creator -- whether you're a journalist, freelancer or blogger -- can set up a customized profile to receive releases based on preferences. You also have access to hi-res photos, media-only content such as media advisories and embargoed releases, and experts via ProfNet.

ProfNet customers can respond directly to reporters looking for expert sources, pitch experts and story ideas directly to the media, and create searchable expert profiles so media can contact them directly

ProfNet Connect

ProfNet Connect is a free, interactive online community where PR professionals, experts, and media professionals can network and engage with one another. Via profiles, forums and blogs, subject-matter experts can position themselves as the go-to source for reporters. In turn, reporters can search the site by keyword to find the experts they need. The site also features enhanced profile capabilities, allowing users to easily add multimedia components -- photos, videos, white papers and more -- to their profiles. And because profiles are indexed by all major search engines, users can increase their visibility and media interaction even further.

News Widget

Our widget allows you to display PR Newswire content on your site with very little back-end programming required.   You not only get the headline, but also the body of text of the news release, keeping the user on your site at all times.  In order to do so, the difference between our Widget and other widgets is at the end of the sign-up process, you will be provided with 2 pieces of source code -- one for the page where the Widget itself will be displayed and one for the pages that will display the body of text of each news release.   In addition, the sign-up process allows you to have 100% control over every aspect of the Widget's appearance, so that the Widget can blend in fully with the look and feel of your website.... Here it is in action on my bike blog.
