A Brief Blog Profile: The Daily
by Thomas Hynes
The Daily is a "newspaper" built for the iPad. I use the quotes here sarcastically since, well, there is no paper. But, it's also for non tablet users, too! Personally, I follow them through their Tumblr page. The brand promises to publish "news, entertainment, culture, opinion, gossip, sports and tech." In other words, they publish on everything. And they do so every single day. Or as they say they "deliver" every day. But, since this is a digital enterprise, they constantly update, too.
But, I don't have to tell you how websites work! I have to tell you about THIS website. Recently, I'm reading about the difference between Lena Dunham and Tina Fey. And here is a post on how certain buildings are built to look like animals. And there's this post about an orhpaned walrus. It's seriously cute. But it's also a story that people are talking about. It may not inform people on how to vote, but this kind of content will help people chat with their coworkers in the kitchen.
And speaking of elections, this post illustrates how a certain segment of swing state voters are being ignored: the swingers. And, hey, look. Some of the content on The Daily might make Edward Murrow spin in his grave. But, it's still relevant. And it's still news.
