A Brief Blog Profile: The Line
by Thomas Hynes
The Line is an education blog written by an actual educator. In fact, she's a 7th grade teacher, which by some accounts makes her insane! ( Have you met a 7th grader? Can you remember your own 7th grade? Ok then.) And according to her there are many lines. There are "the lines we read and write, the lines we think along, the lines we picket, the lines we are fed, the lines we draw and cross."
Ok, and I may have crossed The Line by calling the author insane. A better word would be insightful. A lot of people take education seriously. A lot of people have a lot of opinions on the matter. But who better to get the perspective from than one on the ground. This blog deals with superintendents, parents and learning. But there's also some classroom poetry. On one post she even links to a Thievery Corporation song. Like most people, I grew up thinking my teachers stayed at the school to live (and sleep) when we us students went home at night. I never imagined they lived real lives, listening to real good music.
And that's what's great about The Line. It has voice. There's a real person back there blogging behind the lesson plan. And this site paints a realistic and informative portrait of what it's like to teach.
