A Brief Blog Profile: The Martorialist

by Thomas Hynes

Like any good rap blog, The Martorialist is snarky, thorough and full of jokes I probably won't ever get. Take for example the name. I don't get it. It might have something to do with wrestling.  There's no About page, so really, I'm guessing. But I do love rap music. I actually used to write for a rap magazine in San Francisco. (Ayo, Martorialist, ever heard of 'SHOUT!' from SF??)  But way more importantly, I grew up in the 90s to the sounds of Tribe, Naughty by Nature (yeah I said it), Wu-Tang and Dre.

I get the sense The Martorialist grew up loving rap, too. There's a recurring series on the blog called "Reasons Why I Love YouTube." On this post featuring Greg Nyce, you can sense the author's excitement in re-discovering a once-forgotten track, here kept alive by the nearly limitless archive that is YouTube. It's also a good track. Still, the site is quick to call out poor quality, like on this post calling out the Worst Rap Songs of 2011.

Some might be offended by some of the content found in rap music. But I'm not going to defend every song in the genre of rap. For one, that would take too long, and, secondly, who does that? To deal with an entire genre is to do just that, deal with the entire genre. The Martorialist is a fun blog. No doubt. But it's also a smart blog. Posing a question like "Is Nas the Terrence Malick of Rap?" is not meant for intellectual lightweights. Plus, the song by Lil B (The Based God) featured on the post is both real nice to listen to AND thoughtful. Just like a lot of rap.

News Widget

Our widget allows you to display PR Newswire content on your site with very little back-end programming required.   You not only get the headline, but also the body of text of the news release, keeping the user on your site at all times.  In order to do so, the difference between our Widget and other widgets is at the end of the sign-up process, you will be provided with 2 pieces of source code -- one for the page where the Widget itself will be displayed and one for the pages that will display the body of text of each news release.   In addition, the sign-up process allows you to have 100% control over every aspect of the Widget's appearance, so that the Widget can blend in fully with the look and feel of your website.... Here it is in action on my bike blog.
