A Brief Blog Profile: The Transport Politic
by Thomas Hynes
The Transport Politic is a blog dedicated to mass transportation and the politics surrounding it. The site examines infrastructure projects throughout the U.S., Canada and Great Britain, both those in progress and those proposed. But, it's not all system maps on this blog. (But, there certainly are a lot!) The site discusses the policies driving the debate over mass transportation, innovation and cost. And while this blog certainly does provide a journalistic function, it also positions itself as a staunch advocate for mass transportation.
I should probably confess at this point that I love trains. I also really love cities. So this blog really speaks to me. This is a blog I can (and probably will) spend all day reading. For instance, here is a report on Miami's new transit line. The post quickly points out, however, that many other lines were planned and eventually scrapped. Here the blog discusses LA's west side subway extension, including a timeline. And staying in state, here you can read about the future of California's high speed rail program.
And again, if you're a real transit nerd (like yours truly), you can just spend some time perusing this list of transit projects currently under construction. You'll see that The Transport Politic is not only an enjoyable read. It's also a great resource to see where we're going.
