Case Study: Siemens AG Chooses PR Newswire’s MediaRoom to Power Online Media Relations

Overview:
Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) is a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, and operates in the industrial, energy and healthcare sectors. For more than 160 years, Siemens has built a reputation for leading-edge innovation and the quality of its products, services and solutions. With 428,000 employees in 190 countries, Siemens reported worldwide sales of $116.6 billion in fiscal 2008. Siemens USA, based in New York City, employs approximately 69,000 people throughout all 50 states and Puerto Rico with sales of $22.4 billion.

Challenge:
As a diversified company with numerous brands and divisions, the Siemens USA Corporate Communications department faced logistical issues in the management of its press facing web site, as there was often confusion amongst different departments over who would be responsible for editing the site and how it would be managed.

Solution:
After carefully considering several online systems and service providers, Siemens USA decided to move its media site to the PR Newswire MediaRoom platform. MediaRoom is a hosted web site service which provides users direct control over online PR content including electronic press kits, press releases and multimedia assets.

Key to MediaRoom’s functionality is the ability for “non-technical” users to update the site without the need to involve IT.  According to Caroline Douglas, Communications Manager, Siemens Corporation, “We knew that the best way for us to manage our media site would be for the corporate communications department to have hands-on control over the content without having to engage our IT department every time a change is needed.  This freedom to operate is especially critical now that the news and information cycle has become a 24/7 concern.”

Results:
PR Newswire worked with Siemens USA to create a custom MediaRoom that was seamlessly integrated within the structure and design of the Siemens USA web site. The new Siemens MediaRoom features press releases, video and image archives for all divisions, as well corporate and contact information.

Because MediaRoom features automatic posting of news releases from the wire to the MediaRoom, the issue of who would be responsible for updating the web site with news was instantly resolved. The streamlined posting enabled Siemens USA to completely abolish a once time-consuming task, and made it easier for journalists to access up-to-date news and content about Siemens Corporation and its divisions.

Further, with MediaRoom, Siemens can now update news and other information directly on the site in real-time from anywhere with internet access; automatically notify interested subscribers of its  latest news; and analyze what information on the site is getting the most interest and how users are finding it.

Siemens USA Corporate Communications believes that the number one benefit of PR Newswire’s services is that it has enabled the corporate communications team to have complete control in managing the media room site, allowing the company to make better use of its resources.

Quotes:
“MediaRoom without a question has made things much easier for us around here. We love that our PR Newswire rep is often paying close attention to our promotional activities and offering new and better solutions. She recommended that we try their new multimedia tool, the MultiVu Web Solution, an embeddable, interactive player that includes multiple videos and other multimedia. We have really enjoyed using this fun and interactive communications too and plan to do several more.”

– Caroline Douglas, Communications Manager, Siemens Corporation
