October 11, 2004, McLean, VA - United Therapeutics Corporation tops the list of the fastest growing technology companies in Maryland and webMethods, Inc. tops the list of the fastest growing technology companies in Virginia as recognized by Deloitte & Touche LLP, one of the nation's leading professional services firms, at an award event held October 7 at The DC ESPN Zone. Called the "Maryland & Virginia Technology Fast 50," the annual award program ranks by revenue growth technology companies located in Maryland or Virginia.
"In an era where technology companies come and go, making the Deloitte & Touche Fast 50 is a testament to a company's vision that allows growth over a five-year period," said Gary Tabach, Managing Partner in the Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Group at Deloitte based in McLean, VA. "The Fast 50 winners have proven they have a winning strategy for growth and we at Deloitte salute their accomplishments."
Winners are selected based on the percentage of growth in fiscal year revenues from 1999 to 2003. To be considered, Fast 50 entrants must have met the following criteria: Have revenues of at least $50,000 in 1999 and at least $1,000,000 in 2003. Be public or private companies, headquartered in Maryland or Virginia. Subsidiaries and divisions are not eligible, unless they have some public ownership and are separately traded. Be a "technology company" defined as owning proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues (using other companies' technology in a unique way does not qualify); and/or devoting a significant proportion of revenues to research and development of technology.
