Citizens Urged to Descend on District Congressional Offices Nationwide On September 8 at 12 Noon

West Chester, OH · August 25, 2008 /PRNewswire/ — The famous quote by anthropologist Margaret Mead – "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." – is the rallying cry of a group of 17 citizens in West Chester Township, a community located twenty miles north of Cincinnati, Ohio. Determined to make congressional representatives and senators "stop posturing" and take action by passing The American Energy Act (House Resolution #6566) to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil, the group formed a PAC called Making Congress Accountable, Inc. They produced a 4.5 minute video, "You Should Know," and a website, www.energyrallyforamerica.com, which launched today. The website directs visitors to forward a provided letter to their "fellow Americans" promoting participation in the Energy Rally for America on Monday, September 8, the day Congress convenes their fall session. In addition to forwarding the letter, those interested in attending the rally can print out "The Energy Rally for America Pledge" from the website and deliver it in person to their district congressional office at 12:00 noon (in each time zone) on September 8. That day rally organizers will travel to Washington, D.C. to deliver the pledge to the congressional offices. The public is invited to join them at the Capitol.

"This is a grassroots effort to rally all Americans to take an active role in persuading our government to pass legislation that provides energy solutions through American ingenuity," says Patti Alderson, one of the event organizers. "This is not a Republican issue, a Democratic issue or an Independent issue, it is an American issue."

"Rising gas prices over the summer tipped the scale," comments fellow-organizer Robert Taylor. "We feel a responsibility to do something about government's lack of accountability. Why should Congress take a five week vacation while the rest of America cancels theirs?"

The organizers invested their own money and asked friends for donations to cover the cost of the website and publicity. No contributions are solicited. "We don't want money," Alderson says, "We want people to get motivated and be at their districts' congressional offices on September 8th."
