Global Online Game Festival GNGWC beginsJuly 6, 2006 - Seoul, Korea - The game&game world championship 2006 (GNGWC 2006) was born of a vision of video games as a catalyst of global community and good will. While much of the game industry's attention is on the next generation consoles, this program focuses on PC games (massively multiplayer online "MMO"), the social interaction they provide and the global communities they facilitate. "What sets this competition apart from any other gaming tournament is the scale of the project and one simple underlying principle. One world... united by games. Making friends of strangers." said Kim Jeong-Soo, Executive Director, Digital Contents Business Group, KIPA. "It is the bedrock of our program and a truth that will resonate with gamers the world over. Games fostering an international community bound by advancing technology, a spirit of good will, friendly competition and fun." Enter the GNGWC 2006, a massive global effort led by the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication, KIPA Management. "GNGWC is an online game tournament that differs from other tournaments in it's selection of games, ease of play and focus on fun over violence." said Kevin Carney, Managing Director of GMS, "This project will be the first to bring competitive gaming for cash and prizes to a mainstream audience. I believe that it will also usher in an era of simplified gaming through advancing technologies." GNGWC 2006 offers a simplified tournament structure that has never been offered on a global scale before. The process calls for gamers of any nation to visit the site, register for the event, download one of the supported games and begin playing. Gamers will play online matches in an effort to qualify for the Regional Finals in North America, Southeast Asia, Japan and Europe. Through this process, the 'best of the best" will be selected and flown to the Grand Finals in Suwon, Korea, the "IT capital of the world". This final tournament will crown the world champions and award large cash purses and prizes to competitors in each of the three supported game categories (Golf, Role Playing and Shooting). Registrations and applications will be accepted starting on July 3, 2006. The online preliminary will begin on the 21st of July.
