MARS, INCORPORATED ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ALLIANCE FOR A HEALTHIER GENERATION AT A PRESS CONFERENCE WITH FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON AND THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

NEW YORK, NY, October 07, 2006 -- The Alliance for a Healthier Generation (the Alliance), which is a partnership between the William J. Clinton Foundation, the American Heart Association, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, joined with Mars, Incorporated and four other food industry leaders to support specific guidelines for competitive foods offered in schools.

In order to help schools adopt these guidelines while still providing delicious treats for children, the U.S. business of Mars, Incorporated will launch a new line of snacks to specifically meet the Alliance's strict guidelines for calories, sugar, fat, saturated fat and nutrients for children in elementary and secondary schools.

October 9-13 is National School Lunch Week, and this initiative is a giant step towards teaching school children how to have their snacks and stay healthy too. Jamie Mattikow, President, Mars, Nutrition for Health & Well Being, commented from the initiative press conference.

"Achieving the goals of The Alliance is all about rising up to deal with challenges. Schools and food manufacturers are challenged like never before to apply creativity, caring and commitment towards healthier school choices for children. We have put the vast nutritional science expertise of Mars to work to create innovative new products to offer to sale in schools that appeal to younger kids and teens and are designed with their unique nutrition needs in mind," said Jamie Mattikow.
