TORNADO Takes St. Louis by Storm This Memorial Day Weekend!
Hurricane Harbor, FREE With Six Flags Theme Park Admission, Gets Better and Wetter With Opening of New, Water Thrill Ride
ST. LOUIS, May 25, 2005 - The National Water-lovers Service has issued a special alert for the Midwest region! TORNADO is scheduled to sweep into Six Flags St. Louis' Hurricane Harbor on Saturday, May 28, bringing with it a water experience of epic proportions! Water lovers are encouraged to make preparations now to ride the ultimate storm as it lands in Hurricane Harbor, the 12-acre tropical island paradise that already holds over 1.2 million gallons of watery fun and, best of all, it is free with a theme park admission!
From 75-ft. in the air, water lovers delight in being plunged down a 132-ft. tunnel before shooting out into the large open end of a giant, blue and yellow checkerboard funnel! Over 5,000 gallons of water per minute rushes through the 60-ft. in diameter funnel sending guests spinning and swirling from side to side before splashing through a waterfall below! Guests experience this over-the-top, wet-n-wild water attraction in 4-person, cloverleaf shaped rafts!
TORNADO, which resembles a 60-ft. tall, household funnel lying on its side, was previously introduced in three Six Flags parks and received rave reviews by park guests! In 2005, this unique award wining water ride is joining six more Six Flags theme parks across the country! TORNADO has received various other accolades including the amusement industry's 2003 Golden Ticket Award for Best Waterpark Ride and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions 2003 Best New Product Award in the Waterpark Category!
TORNADO is the first major addition to Hurricane Harbor, which opened at Six Flags St. Louis in 1999. Hurricane Harbor offers guests an opportunity to travel to a tropical paradise without leaving the Midwest. As Six Flags' guests pass through the portal to Hurricane Harbor they experience the sights and sounds of the islands. Over 1,000-tons of sand and nearly 20,000 tropical plants, thatched roofed buildings and more make the water park a perfect beach-retreat for park guests. With seven water attraction complexes and over 1,250 lounge chairs, Hurricane Harbor offers fun for everyone; from those who want to bask in the sun to those who want to plunge down a wild water slide.
Hurricane Harbor offers three water slide complexes featuring eight water slides, each with their own unique twists. A series of four tube slides, both open and enclosed, offer twists and turns while careening down from atop a five-story deck in either a one or two person tube! The speed slides offer two enclosed, twisting slides and one open slide that features a 45°, 64-ft., straight vertical plunge! This daring speed slide plunge is taken with nothing between the guest and the slide but a layer of rushing water. And The Big Kahuna takes riders on a white water rafting adventure beginning six-stories up, swishing and banking down the sides of a giant snake-like course in six-person rafts!
Guests can opt for a slower pace at Gully Washer Creek as they float along the 1,100-ft. lazy river with its waterfalls and tropical plants! Or, beachfront bliss is an option at Hurricane Bay with its 560,000 gallons of water and 4-ft. simulated ocean waves that carry guests back to the shore of this 30,000-sq. ft. wave pool! And younger water lovers are right at home in Hook's Lagoon where a five-story tree house complete with 75 water-gadgets, water slides, a pint-sized pirate ship and a bucket that dumps over 1,000 gallons of water every few minutes waits just for them!
Hurricane Harbor offers it's own eatery, Hurricane Jane's Island Cafe', and gift shop, Monsoon Marge's. For the guests' convenience, the water park offers changing houses, optional tube and locker rentals and restrooms. Admission to Hurricane Harbor is FREE with theme park admission and guests can visit as often as they like in the course of their stay at Six Flags St. Louis.
