$37.5 Million Lotto Ticket Sold in Freeport, Ill.; One Lucky Winner Will Collect on Huge Lotto Jackpot

Apr 26, 2005, 01:00 ET from Illinois Lottery

CHICAGO, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Ending months of suspense, a Freeport,
Ill.-based retailer has sold the $37.5-million grand prize winning ticket from
 the Illinois Lottery's Lotto game.
During the April 25 Lotto drawing, Lottery officials pulled the winning
numbers of 14-02-49-34-24-40. The numbers matched a ticket sold by Horizon
Super Market, located at 1130 S. Galena Ave., in Freeport, Ill. A winner has
yet to step forward to claim the prize, but the retail location will
automatically receive a bonus of 1 percent of the grand prize, or $375,000,
for selling the winning ticket. Lottery Superintendent Carolyn Adams will
present an oversized check to the retailer tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
To claim the prize, the owner of the winning ticket must present the
original ticket and complete a claim form through one of the Lottery's five
check-writing locations in the state. The location nearest Freeport is the
Rockford office at 200 S. Wyman St. The owner of the winning ticket must
bring a photo ID and some means of verifying their Social Security number.
The lucky winner has one year from the date of the drawing to claim the prize.
"This has been an exciting week for the Illinois Lottery and we are
thrilled that one lucky player is going to get a huge $37.5 million jackpot,"
 remarked Lottery Superintendent Carolyn Adams.
The latest winning Lotto jackpot had been rolling since November 2004,
reaching its highest level since March 3, 2001, when the Lotto grand prize hit
$33 million. The record for a Lotto jackpot in Illinois was $69.9 million,
reached more than 20 years ago on April 15, 1989.
Winning players have the option to take their jackpot in one lump sum
payment or to have the winnings paid to them over the course of multiple
years. The lump sum payment is generally equal to half the jackpot amount
minus 28 percent in taxes. Players who opt to receive the entire jackpot
receive the value of the entire jackpot minus 28 percent in taxes over a 26
 year period.
