3D Vision Company Tyzx Receives Investment From Global Auto Supplier to Improve Vehicle and Pedestrian Safety

Takata Invests in Tyzx 3D Vision Technology to Develop Cost Effective

Automotive Stereovision Applications

MENLO PARK, Calif., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Tyzx, Inc., the 3D vision
company, today announced it has received a substantial investment from
Takata, a global manufacturer of automotive safety systems with more than
33,000 employees worldwide. The Takata investment follows an earlier
investment by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
Tyzx, building on more than 15 years of research at Harvard, Interval
Research, MIT, and Stanford, has developed a platform of hardware, software
and services for building affordable products that see and interact with
 the world in three dimensions.
Tyzx delivers high volume, cost-effective 3D vision solutions to
industry leaders in automotive, consumer electronics, robotics and security
 markets.
Takata, a global manufacturer of automotive safety systems, is one of
the largest suppliers of complete safety systems in the world. Takata
produces a full line of seatbelt systems and components, airbag modules and
inflators, electronic sensor units and modules, and steering wheels and
clocksprings, as well as a broad range of interior trim components. Takata
is comprised of 48 manufacturing plants in 18 countries.
"Takata is proud of its global reputation as a leader in integrated
safety systems for the automotive market and our investment in Tyzx is the
latest demonstration of our commitment to industry innovation," said Dana
Stonerook, executive vice president, Electronic Safety Systems, Takata.
Industry experts believe that vehicles with 3D vision safety features
can help better protect drivers and passengers in collisions, help cars
avoid accidents, keep vehicles in appropriate road lanes, and prevent many
accidental backup injuries and fatalities, among other benefits. The
European Union and Japan have already passed legislation mandating more
"pedestrian friendly vehicles." Future regulations will require additional
measures to prevent pedestrian injury and could drive the need for systems
that incorporate vision technology as developed by Tyzx and Takata.
"Cars that 'see' promise to be an incredible breakthrough for the
automotive industry," said Ron Buck, CEO of Tyzx. "Our 3D approach to
computer vision solves the enormous technical problems that historically
made this solution unaffordable for volume consumer markets such as
automotive. Tyzx real-time 3D stereovision tracking software, SEER,
together with our DeepSea hardware technology, provides a small format,
high performance, low power, cost effective delivery solution. That means
soon we can all drive safer, smarter cars."
