A World of SPAM(TM) Enthusiasts Expected to Gather in Austin, Minn., for SPAM JAM(TM) 2001

    AUSTIN, Minn., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, July 7, the city of
 Austin, Minn. (20,000), is expecting a crowd its own size to honor its most
 recognized product -- SPAM(R) luncheon meat.  SPAM JAM(TM) 2001 festival will
 be a 15-hour celebration of SPAM(TM) lovers, by SPAM(TM) lovers and for
 SPAM(TM) lovers.

     Hormel Foods, the Austin-based company that makes SPAM(R) luncheon meat,
 anticipates more than 20,000 SPAM(TM) fans from across the country and around
 the world for the 11th annual event.  Last year, visitors from 47 states and
 17 foreign countries announced their presence by putting location pins in a
 huge world map.
     SPAM JAM(TM) begins at 7 a.m. on July 7 with a SPAM(TM) Rhyming Sign
 Contest Display and SPAM(TM) Fishing Contest.  Physical, mental and hysterical
 challenges, including the SPAM(TM) Water Wars Game, SPAM(TM) Medallion
 Treasure Hunt, SPAM(TM) 25-mile Bike Race, SPAM(TM) 5-mile Run, SPAM(TM)
 Gelatin Jump, SPAM(TM) Recipe Contest, SPAM(TM) Suds Crawl, SPAM(TM) Titanic
 Slide and the SPAM(TM) Canoe Caravan will keep the day rolling.  Entertainment
 throughout the day will include various musical attractions, including the
 SPAMETTES(TM) singing group along with the Twin Cities River Rats water ski
 show.  An all-new attraction will be the SPAM(TM) Teen Fest which features
 Leep 27 and Sweet Mo Pea.  Visitors will be allowed a "sneak preview" display
 of the new SPAM(TM) Museum scheduled to open in mid-September.
     In addition to contest prizes awarded throughout the day, a drawing will
 be held for a trip to Hawaii, long recognized as the "SPAM(TM) Capital of the
 World," where residents consume 5.3 million cans of the luncheon meat
 annually.  Other awards include cash prizes, SPAM(R) visors, SPAM(TM) fanny
 packs, SPAM(R) sweatshirts and SPAM(R) oven roasted turkey banks.
     "SPAM(R) luncheon meat has been an important piece of Americana for more
 than 60 years," said Julie H. Craven, director of public relations for Hormel
 Foods.  "SPAM JAM(TM) provides a wonderful opportunity for both young and old
 to get together, have fun and pay tribute to a food that's remained a favorite
 for decades and provided an endless number of meals for people all over the
     SPAM JAM(TM) enthusiasts will dine on SPAM(TM) cuisine and are expected to
 consume more than 3,000 cans of SPAM(R) luncheon meat, from SPAMBURGER(R)
 hamburgers to SPAM(TM) kabobs to SPAM(TM) pizza and SPAM(TM) egg rolls.
     SPAM JAM(TM), an annual event since 1991, is part of a four-day
 SPAM(TM)TOWN USA Festival in Austin, Minn., which runs from July 4 through
 July 8.  This year's SPAM JAM(TM) will be a prelude celebration leading up to
 the SPAM(TM) Museum opening.
