Most Powerful Vote to Gather to Get Facts on Key Issues from Candidates

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With just days to the General Election in NYC, the final Mayoral debate tonight will no doubt be a hot one. Representing about half of all votes cast, AARP members will be the deciding factor in the race and tonight on Staten Island, they will gather to watch the debate and discuss their top concerns before heading to the polls next week. AARP has 68,000 members on Staten Island, 80% vote in higher magnitude races, such as the NYC Mayoral race.

Who:

Staten Island AARP Members

When:

Wednesday, October 30

7-8:30 P.M.

Where:

The Gallery Banquet Room

297 Van Duzer Street, Staten Island

Why:

Staten Island's 50+ population often times feel forgotten in major NYC races – they have a unique set of concerns compared to other boroughs that they are looking for the candidates to address.  They are more concerned about being able to pay property taxes and utility bills, report heavy traffic, streets that need repair and poor public transportation as a major concern at a much higher rate, and say they'll delay retirement for financial reasons more than their counterparts in other boroughs.
