ABLENOOK: A RAPIDLY DEPLOYABLE DISASTER RELIEF SHELTER HITS KICKSTARTER Ablenook, a rapidly deployable multi-use dwelling, announces a funding project through Kickstarter. Sean Verdecia and Jason Ross, the inventors, created Ablenook in response to recent natural disasters.

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- AbleNook is a portable structure comprised of interlocking components easily assembled without tools by unskilled laborers in a short period of time. These components can be shipped flat-packed, maximizing the number of families who are helped in disaster areas, while reducing transportation costs.  AbleNook's structural members can come prewired so that upon assembly the electrical system is live. The simple assembly system allows for ease of fabrication and assembly in disaster scenarios where time and technical knowledge are limited.

Units are expandable depending on application and can include the use of multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, work space, storage, etc. AbleNook makes use of adjustable footing foundations allowing the unit to be placed on uneven surfaces so they can be deployed almost anywhere without the need for poured foundations.

Verdecia and Ross envision AbleNook for more than disaster relief housing. The portable dwelling can be used as prefab housing, modular classrooms, flex office space, and in some military applications. AbleNook's plug and play logic allows units to be disassembled a reassembled based on need, creating an economy of scale for its use.

The success of the Kickstarter campaign will enable Verdecia and Ross to build a fully prefabricated "field prototype" with which to complete final testing before bringing AbleNook to market.
