ACARE ED Carey Testifies Before EPW: Even More Reasons to Oppose Kerry-Boxer
WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a full committee hearing today on S. 1733, Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act.
Carey, in his capacity as President of the Ohio Coal Association, was invited to testify before the committee. A copy of his written testimony can be accessed here: http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Files.View&FileStore_id=dec0a8cc-d350-4ade-9c5a-b22a591f0836
Carey's testimony emphasized four key reasons to oppose Kerry-Boxer:
- The promise of a green job economy is a myth, particularly in the coal regions of our country;
- The impacts of this legislation vary dramatically from region to region, with major losers and very few people who might win;
- The legislation will devastate coal communities, as nothing in this bill will protect coal workers or allow our country to continue to use our most abundant and cheapest form of domestic energy, coal; and
- The threat that Congress must act in order to stop EPA is a canard and nothing in this bill stops EPA from acting.
"The Senate needs to consider the hard numbers of total jobs impacted, total energy production lost, the economic impact on communities and the far-reaching damage to the manufacturing sectors, GDP and American competitiveness," said Carey. "I hope that senators listen to constituents and not to the misinformed and misguided special interests that are pushing the green jobs myth."
ACARE was formed to fight for the energy supplies that America needs to maintain its unparalleled social and economic advancement. ACARE believes that the availability of diverse sources of energy should be based on free market forces rather than government mandates and preferences, taxpayer subsidies, and government-sanctioned consumer gouging.
