ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to today's Environmental Protection Agency announcement to finalize an initial endangerment finding, the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity released the following statement:

"Today's EPA ruling underscores the need for Congress to pass sensible climate legislation. We believe that regulating greenhouse gas emissions under the statutory authority of the Clean Air Act is not the preferred course.

"ACCCE supports legislation in Congress that will adopt a mandatory federal program for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Such a program should bring new technologies to the marketplace to reduce emissions, drive down the cost of deploying those technologies so as to protect access to affordable, reliable electricity, and promote the use of American coal to meet our nation's growing energy needs.

"Recent technology advances, like those announced by Energy Secretary Chu last Friday that are being funded through the American Recovery and Investment Act, are showing that America can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and still have access to affordable, reliable electricity to power our economy and daily lives.
