Accounting Today Names Nashville CEO Among Top 100 Most Influential in Accounting
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- David A. Costello, CPA, President of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) has been named as one of the "Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting" by Accounting Today Magazine. This year marks Costello's twelfth year being nominated for the honor.
In addition to serving as President & CEO of NASBA since 1994, Costello is also the President and CEO of NASBA's Center for the Public Trust -- established in 2004 to address the issue of ethics and ethical behavior in business, education, public policy and society, while promoting a positive perspective on activities within the business and accounting communities.
Over the years, Costello has represented the voice of state boards of accountancy by strategically addressing issues such as IFRS, mobility, peer review reporting, licensure best practices and public protection, all of which have a global impact on the accounting profession.
Recognized as a well respected leader in business and accounting, Costello's career highlights are numerous. Costello began his career with Ernst & Ernst (a predecessor firm of Ernst & Young) and then moved into corporate auditing with Genesco, Inc. In 1982, he moved up to president of General Adhesives, Inc., a division of the International Group, Inc. In 1991, Costello started his own consulting firm and served as the Executive Director for the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy. Costello is a member of the AICPA, Tennessee Society of CPAs and the New York Society of CPAs.
A native of Nashville, Costello is passionate about serving his local community. He currently serves on the President's Advisory Council of David Lipscomb University, the MAC Advisory Group at Vanderbilt University and as an Elder at Woodmont Hills Family of God. He is a former member of the Audit Committee of Nashville Electric Service and served on the board of directors for the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and INROADS, Inc.
Costello is a graduate of David Lipscomb University and holds an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He and his wife Sally have five children and 14 grandchildren.
