Jamie D. Underwood was named partner, Jonathan J. Engler joined the firm as counsel, Daniel F. Smith and Asha Allam were added to the firm as associates.

"These are ideal candidates to boost the firm's Section 337 practice. In recent years, the number of cases brought under Section 337 has increased dramatically, and, because of our reputation in this field, we have received more than our fair share of these cases. In fact, in the last several years we have handled more of these cases than any other firm in the country, including much larger national, general practice firms," said Managing Partner Jim Adduci.

Jamie D. Underwood, who became partner at the beginning of this year, will continue to specialize in working with clients to resolve Section 337 unfair import investigations and related enforcement issues before the ITC. Ms. Underwood is an active participant in the intellectual property field, serving as lead editor of the ITC Trial Lawyers Association's Section 337 Reporter, Vice Chair of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, a member of the Litigation Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association, and as Community Outreach Committee of the DC Bar's Intellectual Property Section. In addition to her practice before the ITC, Ms. Underwood has litigation experience in federal trial and appellate courts, where she has handled a variety of disputes involving trademarks, trade dress, trade secrets, unfair trade practices, patents, antitrust, and complex commercial matters. She has also provided pro bono representation in political asylum, employment discrimination, and appellate procedure cases before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Underwood was law clerk to the Honorable Frank Q. Nebeker, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and to the Honorable Truman A. Morrison, III of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Ms. Underwood received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, magna cum laude.

Jonathan J. Engler most recently served as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the ITC, where he advised the Commission on matters relating to 19 U.S.C. Section 1337 and represented the ITC in appellate litigation before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC). His primary area of concentration will continue to be Section 337 intellectual property investigations before the ITC. It should be noted that Mr. Engler was a Senior Attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Commerce, where he represented the Department in international trade litigation before the U.S. Court of International Trade, the CAFC, North American Free Trade Agreement arbitration panels, and the World Trade Organization. He was previously in private practice at a large international firm where he practiced in the firm's Washington D.C. and Brussels, Belgium, offices counseling clients in international trade matters, including state aid to the aviation industry, technical barriers to trade, particularly with respect to international safety standards. Mr. Engler received his J.D., from the Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude.

Daniel F. Smith joins the firm as an associate. He will focus on the firm's Section 337 practice involving imported goods that are alleged to infringe U.S. patents or other intellectual property rights. Mr. Smith was previously with a large firm where he focused on patent litigation. Mr. Smith received his Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

Former summer associate, Asha Allam, who gained extensive practical intellectual property litigation experience, has joined the firm as an associate. She received her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 2009.
