NEW YORK, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Aer Lingus, the national airline of
Ireland, will be making its U.S. west coast debut on May 28 and invites
families to begin planning a very special -- and affordable -- summer vacation
in the Emerald Isle.
Effective tomorrow, March 3, reservations will open for the new Aer Lingus
"Los Angeles Family Fare," priced at $1,999 for a family of four (two adults
and two children up to age 17) valid for round-trip travel from Los Angeles to
Dublin or Shannon during the month of June. With the introductory fare set at
$698 per person on the new route, a family of four will save nearly $200 on
"Summer is a perfect time for families to visit Ireland," says Jack Foley,
Aer Lingus' executive vice president - North America. "There's plenty to see
and do for all ages: horseback riding, fishing, enjoying outdoor festivals,
and taking in the city sights. While Aer Lingus offers children's fares
throughout the year and from other U.S. gateways, our new Los Angeles Family
Fare provides even further savings during the month of June -- a time that is
considered peak season for travel to Ireland."
The special Los Angeles Family Fare is valid for travel between May 28 and
June 30. Tickets must be purchased within 72 hours of reservations and no
later than March 16. Minimum stay is over a Saturday night, with no limit on
a maximum stay. However, travel back to Los Angeles, Aer Lingus' fifth U.S.
gateway, must be completed by July 9, 1999.
In addition to Aer Lingus' unprecedented Family Fare, visitors looking for
accommodations should consider Aer Lingus' innovative "Discover Ireland"
program. Travelers can choose a prebooked "City and Country" stay with
confirmed hotel reservations at a variety of hotels, country inns and castles
with no minimum-maximum stay requirements for as little as $35 per person,
sharing. Or the "Go-As-You-Please" option which allows them to travel at
their own pace with open-dated bed and breakfast or hotel accommodations.
Also through the "Discover Ireland" program, visitors may book an Avis car
rental which start at only $21 per day with no minimum or maximum rental
Beginning May 28, Aer Lingus will provide non-stop service from Los
Angeles to Dublin with continuing service to Shannon three times a week, on
Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Plans call for an increase to five times per
week by 2000. Departing Los Angeles at 6:15 p.m., arrival in Dublin is at
12:30 p.m. The return flight leaves Ireland at 12:30 p.m. and arrives in Los
Angeles at 3:45 p.m. A new Airbus A330-200 has been ordered for the route
which will feature two-class configuration: Premier Class and Classic
Within the past two years, Aer Lingus added express service from Newark,
doubled its frequency from Chicago as well as added capacity from Boston and
New York. It now offers more than 200 flights daily between the U.S. and
Ireland, the U.K. and Continental Europe.
